Maya's 9th Month
June - July 2012
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Maya continues to eat well and is now managing finely chopped foods. Her favourites are spaghetti bolognaise, sweet potatoes, sweetcorn, carrots and chicken.
Additional Care
Maya started intermittent cathiterisation this month to try and get her use to it for later on in life. Unfortunately within a day of starting Maya got what turned out to be a UTI and we were back in hospital for treatment. The infection introduced by the cathiter caused Maya to have a really high temperature which caused a febrile convulsion (seizure) and vomiting. Maya also had breathing difficulties during the fit and required resuscitation. After a very long day and night, with countless tests and procedures Maya stabilised and began to come round. It was confirmed that it was a UTI infection at the root of it all and not shunt related. By the next day she was right as rain and like nothing had ever happened. Maya was treated with an intense course of antibiotics for the infection and we return home the following week.
